FOR EMPLOYERS

Now you can better predict and control healthcare costs for you and your employees. The Blue KC Exchange offers new options beyond existing Blue KC insurance coverage packages. You define what amount you want to give to your employees to purchase coverage, and after weighing the cost and benefits, they choose the plan they want.

FOR EMPLOYEES

If your company provides a "defined contribution" toward plans on the new Blue KC Exchange, employees are now empowered to use this contribution to pay for coverage, and weigh the cost and benefits of many plan options to choose one that best meets their needs, budget and lifestyle. The amount the employer has agreed to pay is applied toward the cost of coverage, and employees pay the balance.

FOR INDIVIDUALS

If you are self-employed or currently uninsured, the new Blue KC Exchange allows you to choose a plan that fits your lifestyle and budget. With Blue KC, you get a name you know and trust, savings on prescription drugs, worldwide coverage, hassle-free claims and more.

FOR EMPLOYERS

HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM THE EXCHANGE.

As healthcare costs continue to rise, employers can now control those costs with "defined contribution" plans from Blue KC. In other words, your contribution is a reasonable, affordable amount you plan to spend annually on health insurance for your employees. Pre-tax dollars are then deposited on behalf of each employee so the employee can shop and pay for the coverage of their choice.

FOR EMPLOYEES

HOW YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM THE EXCHANGE.

Although your employer defines how much they will pay toward your healthcare coverage, you decide how to spend those funds in the Exchange. Simply review all plan options (benefits and costs), then you choose the plan that is right for you and your family. It's your choice. You are only responsible for costs not covered by your employer's contribution.

HOW THE EXCHANGE WORKS.

A SAMPLE SCENARIO:

A small-group employer would like to sustain its employee health insurance program, but because of economic conditions and rate increases finds it increasingly difficult. The company determined it could make a "defined contribution" of $350 a month, per employee.

The employee is notified they will receive $350 each month from their employer toward the purchase of health insurance. The employee will review products, rates and benefits on the Blue KC Exchange and select the plan that's right for them. After reviewing rates for various Blue KC packages, the employee chose a plan that had a monthly premium of $410.40. The employee gets all the benefits of the plan they chose, and only pays $60.40 each month via pre-tax payroll deduction, which represents the difference between the employer's contribution and the plan chosen by the employee.

The Exchange still offers employees other benefit and price options.

Each employee can pick a plan based upon their own personal needs and budget. No matter which plan the employee chooses, the company's contribution of $350 towards that plan stays the same.
